Marketwatch reports President-elect Donald Trump has offered the key cabinet post of Attorney General to Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.). He’s giving the job to one of his most trusted supporters and a longtime critic of U.S. immigration policy. Sessions is expected to accept the offer. He is a former U.S. attorney who was first elected to the Senate in 1996. He was one of Trump’s first supporters on Capitol Hill.
In another story President-elect Trump has offered Rep. Mike Pompeo (R., Kan.) the job of Central Intelligence Agency director, a move that would put a key member of the House Intelligence Committee at the helm of the spy agency. Pompeo is a former Army officer and Harvard Law School graduate. He was first elected to Congress in 2010. and has been one of the harshest critics of the Iran nuclear deal.
In testimony to Congress yesterday Fed Chairman Janet Yellen said an interest-rate hike could come “relatively soon.” The dollar is up strongly this morning. the ICE Dollar Index which measures the dollar against a basket of six other currencies, hit a 13-year high. The greenback also its highest level versus the Japanese yen since May.
