| The Republican-led House of Representatives yesterday approved bills delaying requirements in President Obama’s health-care law that individuals and employers buy health insurance or pay a fine. Obama earlier this month postponed for one year the requirement for big employers to cover their workers, but Republican leaders said that the president needed congressional approval for the move. The bill delaying the employer mandate passed with 264 yes votes and 161 no votes, while the bill delaying the individual mandate drew 251 yes votes and 174 no votes. Neither has a chance in the Democrat-controlled Senate, and the White House says Obama would veto both bills. | |||||||
| Consumer sentiment declined last week from a five-year high as Americans grew more pessimistic about the economy. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index fell to minus 28.4 in the period ended July 14, its first drop in five weeks, from minus 27.3 a week earlier. | |||||||
