The Senate is set to confirm Steven Mnuchin as Secretary of the Treasury later today according to the Associated Press. Democrats have said the former banker failed to protect thousands of homeowners from unnecessary foreclosures when he was head of OneWest Bank. Mnuchin says he worked hard to assist homeowners with refinancing so they could stay in their homes.
Investor Carl Ichan is President Trump’s choice as special adviser for overhauling regulation. The New York Times writes Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and six other Senate Democrats will send a letter to the White House counsel, seeking responses to questions about Icahn’s official role. The senators will raise concerns that Icahn will work to change regulations to benefit his own investments. They want assurances Icahn won’t have access to nonpublic information that could be used to make profitable trades.
