The New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons in Superbowl 51. 34-28, in overtime. According to the Super Bowl indicator that could be bad news for the stock market. The Patriots were in the AFC. If a team from the original American Football League, or its AFC descendant, wins the Super Bowl the market falls. If a team from the original National Football League now the NFC wins the market rises.The indicator has had a fifty year 80% success rate, falling to 70% since 2000, In 2016 the AFC’s Denver Broncos won, but the market was up for the year.
 
The Justice Department yesterday morning filed motions with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco  for an immediate reversal of a Friday’s ruling against the executive order limiting immigration from seven Muslim countries by U.S. District Judge James Robart of Seattle. The Ninth Circuit denied the request for an immediate ruling, instead calling for written responses to the appeal to be filed with the court later today.
