The S&P/Case-Shiller 20-City index was up 0.1% in the three months ending in September, and is 5.1% higher than a year ago. The Pacific Northwest led, with Seattle 11% higher than a year ago, and Portland up 10.9%, though Spetember’s gains moderated with Seattle flat and Portland up 0.1%.
President-elect Trump has chosen top officials for health-care policy, picking House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R., Ga.) as secretary of Health and Human Services. He is a 62-year-old former orthopedic surgeon who led the effort to create a Republican alternative to the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Trump also named Seema Verma, a consultant who helped Vice president elect Mike Pence negotiate a Medicaid deal with the Obama administration, as the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The Conference Board reports the consumer-confidence index rose to 107.1, the highest level since July 2007. Economists expected 102 in November, up from October’s revised 100.8 .
