Global oil prices have been falling on a combination of bearish factors including high U.S. oil production, a surge in Libyan oil output, a seasonal peak in refinery maintenance and weak demand from Asia and Europe.
The prices paid for imported goods fell 0.5% in September and declined for the third straight month, another sign that U.S. inflationary pressures remain muted. The price of U.S.-made goods exported to other nations, meanwhile, declined by 0.2% in September.
Second-quarter earnings from U.S. regional banks are showing the first signs of economic growth across the country, according to analysts.
In the past week, many of the nation’s biggest regional banks reported earnings that showed improvements in profit and revenue growth.
