The Commerce Department reports orders for  durable goods fell a seasonally adjusted 1.0% in May after a revised 0.8% gain in April. The increase in April was due to a record order by the Navy for nuclear submarines. The government initially reported a 0.6% gain. Orders for military hardware had surged since January but economists expect bookings to taper off given a  slowdown in defense spending.
the Internet streamer of broadcast television company Aereo, lost 6-3 in the Supreme Court. The court ruled that Aereo violates the copyrights of broadcast networks’ programming through its process of capturing video signals, converting them to digital streams, and storing them in the cloud. It probably means that Aereo will shut down.
Russia could still see wider economic sanctions imposed if it doesn’t step up its efforts to help end the unrest in Ukraine, Chancellor Angela Merkel said today. The German leader told the lower house of Germany’s parliament that Moscow’s progress toward peace was “too slow”, The Wall Street Journal reported . Her comments came as Russia’s upper house of parliament voted to rescind its earlier decision allowing President Vladimir Putin to deploy armed troops in Ukraine.
