The Securities and Exchange Commission fined Ernst & Young auditor Nima Hedayati, $87,000 to settle charges he traded on inside information about a merger between Lam Research and KLA-Tencor. According to the order, Hedayati purchased calls in KLA stock in his and his fiancée’s brokerage accounts, and encouraged his mother to also purchase shares. The stock increased nearly 20% after the merger was announced. EY terminated Hedayati, who did not admit or deny the SEC’s findings and agreed to be suspended from practicing before the SEC as an accountant for at least five years.
