A large crowd turned out to see Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil  this morning, waiting to learn whether he saw own shadow on Gobbler’s Knob. Phil was in an unusually feisty mood, but once he settled down, he did see his shadow, officials deemed. That means we’re in for six more weeks of cold weather. As the prediction was read out in in Punxsutawney Pa., a sign was held up reading, “We love Old Man Winter.” Other weather analysts disagree.  Staten Island Chuck at 80% has the highest accuracy rating among prognosticating rodents. He informed a New York audience that we would see an early spring. To the north in Nova Scotia, Shubenacadie Sam concurred with Chuck.

Freddie Mac reports the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.19% this week, unchanged from last week. A year ago it was  3.72%.
The 15-year fixed averaged 3.41% up from last week’s 3.40%. A year ago it was 3.01%.
