The Federal Reserver reports industrial production rebounded in February after a weak January because of stronger manufacturing and utility production. Total production rose 0.7% above economists’ forecasts of a 0.6% gain.
The Labor Department reported U.S. consumer prices rose 0.7% in February for the largest gain since June 2009. Gasoline prices rose 9.1%, also the largest jump since June 2009, and accounted for almost three-fourths of February’s gain in the consumer price index. The broader price category for energy increased 5.4%.
Marketwatch reports taxpayers have only a few weeks left to receive nearly $1 billion in unclaimed refunds, according to the Internal Revenue Service.  An estimated 984,400 taxpayers who did not file federal tax returns in 2009 have until April 15 to file their returns and collect refunds totaling just over $917 million for   that year. The IRS estimates about half of those are larger than $500. Most   taxpayers have up to three years to claim a refund before the money is turned   over to the Treasury Department. And those filing late would not need to pay late filing penalties if they qualify for a refund.
