| The Internal Revenue Service today announced provisions for equal treatment under the tax code for same-sex and opposite-sex married couples. The regulations would interpret the terms “husband” and “wife” to include same-sex spouses. The rules apply for all federal tax provisions where marriage is a factor, including filing status, dependency exemptions, standard deductions, and child tax credit, and will not treat civil unions as marriage for federal tax purposes. | |||||||
