| Marketwatch reports that corporate insiders are aggressively selling their shares. Corporate insiders — officers, directors and the largest shareholders — presumably know more about their companies’ prospects than the rest of us do. An insider indicator calculated by the Vickers Weekly Insider Report is the ratio of all shares that insiders have recently sold in the open market to the number that they have purchased. For the week that ended last Friday, this sell-to-buy ratio for NYSE-listed shares listed stood at 9.20-to-1. The last time a weekly sell-to-buy ratio was worse than this was in late July 2011, before the U.S. Treasury’s credit rating was downgraded. | |||||||
| The U.S. Postal Service plans to stop Saturday delivery of mail to trim costs but will continue delivering packages six days a week. The cuts, which are slated to begin in August, would mean a cost savings of about $2 billion a year, with the elimination of 45 million work hours. | |||||||
| March crude is down 1.6%, to $95.14 a barrel on the New York Merc. A report by the American Petroleum Institute after yesterday’s close showed U.S. crude-oil stockpiles increased 3.6 million barrels in the week ended Feb. 1. However a report just issued by the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a smaller-than-expected climb in last week’s crude inventories, along with a decline in distillate stockpiles. Crude supplies rose 2.6 million barrels for the week ended Feb. 1. | |||||||
