| Marketwatch reports The Federal Reserve is going to maintain its monetary policy of aggressive easing at the end of its two-day meeting Wednesday, and will keep it in place until there are signs of a broad-based expansion. | |||||||
| Home prices declined in November on seasonal weakness, with 10 of 20 cities seeing lower prices in the month, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home-price index. The 20-city composite dropped a non-seasonally adjusted 0.1% in November and followed 0.2% decline in October. | |||||||
| The Conference Board’s index of consumer confidence decreased to 58.6, the weakest since November 2011, from a revised 66.7 in December. The January reading was lower than the most pessimistic forecast in a Bloomberg survey, which had a median estimate of 64. | |||||||
| People in the U.S. illegally would be eligible for citizenship under a bipartisan plan to reform immigration policy unveiled today. The Senate plan creates a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million people now in the country illegally. Citizenship would be contingent, however, on securing U.S. borders and setting up a new system for tracking whether legal U.S. visa holders leave on time. | |||||||
