The Census Bureau reports the homeownership rate in the fourth quarter of 2017 jumped to 64.2%. It hit an all-time high of 69.1% in 2004 as the housing bubble inflated but hit a low 62.9% in 2016. It was the fourth quarter in a row in which the growth in the number of new owner households outpaced the number of new renter households. There were 1.52 million more owner households compared to a year earlier, and 76,000 fewer renter households |
