A fundamental design flaw in Intel’s processor chips has forced a significant redesign of the Linux and Windows operating systems kernels to fix the chip-level security bug. The bug affects all chips designed in the last ten years and the performance hit is between 5% and 30% depending on the task and processor model. The flaw appears to be widespread in Intel processors designed over the last tien years. Intel finished the day down 5.6% to 43.75 a share.
