Shares of generic drug manufacturers rose todayfollowing a report from CNBC that Amazon.com had conversations with Mylan and Sandoz, which is part of Novartis, about potentially entering the pharmacy market. Drugstores, pharmacy-benefit managers, and distributors saw their stocks fall on concerns that Amazon will bring new competition and disrupt their business models even though it is unclear what Amazon’s pharmacy ambitions are.
