The Conference Board reports the leading economic index surged 1.2% in October which suggests the US economy will be strong through the end of the year. That beat the 0.1% gain in September. The index s a weighted gauge of 10 indicators designed to signal business-cycle peaks and valleys. Current economic conditions rose 0.3%, The lagging moved up 0.2%. Almost all of the 10 components of the index rose, snapping back from a soft September. Layoffs declined, hiring increased, stocks rose, and the housing market rebounded.
