A new report from the National Association of Realtors shows that student loans delayed saving for a down payment or a home purchase for people even as old as between and 70. Student debt is the single biggest hurdle among all buyers, with 49% calling it the expense that most delayed their home purchase financing. Credit-card debt is next, with 40% flagging it as the biggest obstacle. With those 36 and younger calling it their largest hurdle. A solid 7% of Americans between 62 and 70 still call student debt a burden.
