The Wall Street Journal reports Microsoft will unveil a version of Windows Server that runs on chips made by ARM Holdings, getting behind efforts to crack Intel’s dominance in chips for data-centers. Microsoft says in a blog post that it worked with Qualcomm, the leading supplier of smartphone chips , and Cavium to adapt Windows Server to run on their ARM server chips as well as several ARM suppliers to optimize them. The ARM version of Windows Server will be demonstrated at a conference on open standards in computing hardware and was developed for Microsoft’s Azure cloud-computing service.
The debt limit is suspended through next Wednesday, March 15 thanks to a bipartisan budget deal struck in 2015. The current amount is $19.9 trillion but government will be able to take measures to meet its obligations through the fall using “extraordinary measures,” such as suspending investments in certain government funds, to keep funding the federal government. The Congressional Budget Office said this week hose measures would probably be exhausted “sometime in the fall of 2017.”
