Former House Speaker John Boehner is skeptical of Republicans being able to “repeal and replace” Obamacare. Repeal-and-replace is mere “happy talk,” he said Thursday at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference in Orlando, Fla. Any change to the existing Affordable Care Act would likely be limited, Boehner said, since “Republicans never ever agree on health care.”
The Commerce Department reports new home sales ran at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 555,000. That was 3.7% higher than in December, and 5.5% higher compared with a year ago. Economists expected a 586,000 annual pace. The median sales price was $312,900, down 1% from December, but 7% higher than a year ago. At January’s sales pace there 5.7 months of inventory, as December.
The University of Michigan’s survey of consumer sentiment, fell to to 96.3 in Febuary, slightly better than the 95.7 preliminary estimate. In January it hit a 13-year high of 98.5, reflecting increased in confidence following the election of President Trump.
