The Philadelphia Federal Reserve’s index of business conditions rose to 23.6 in Janurary from a revised 19.7 in December, for the fastest pace since November 2014. Economists expected 16. Employment, new orders, and shipments were all strong and the employment index hit the highest level in 21 months. Most manufacturers expect business to be better six months from now as future expectations hit the highest level since August 2014.
