U.S. stocks are mostly flat this morning, as investors stay on the sidelines ahead of a news conference from President-elect Trump. It is expected at 8:00 am Pacific t Time. It will be his first formal news conference since July. As markets are hoping for further clues over the direction of fiscal policy.
Ahead of its annual meeting of world leaders, the World Economic Forum laid out five of the biggest threats facing the planet in 2017. They are in order extreme weather events, large-scale involuntary migration, major natural disasters, large-scale terrorist attacks, and a massive data breach.
Rex Tillerson, President-elect Trump’s nominee as Secretary of State, told senators this morning in his confirmation hearing that Russia “poses a danger” to the U.S. but that the two countries need an “open and frank dialogue.” Tillerson, the former CEO of Exxon Mobil , is testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His prepared testimony covers relations with Russia, China and other nations and says the U.S. is the “only global superpower with the means and the moral compass capable of shaping the world for good.”
