| The New York Fed reports business activity in the New York region declined for the fourth straight month in November and showed few signs of improvement. The Empire State manufacturing index for November inched up to negative 10.7 from negative 11.4 in October. Economist expected negative 6.5. This is the first time since early 2009 that theindex has been below negative 10 for four straight months. New orders and shipments had smaller drops while labor conditions worsened, with declines in both employment levels and hours worked. The six-month outlook shows slight optimism. | |||||||
| A Washington state court jury on Friday found Ernst & Young liable for $200 million of losses that investment firm FutureSelect of Redmond, Washington took from the collapse of Bernie Madoff’s $17 billion Ponzi scheme. The jury found the Big Four accounting firm was negligent in its work as auditor for a feeder fund that pooled investors’ cash and funneled it to Madoff. FutureSelect claimed that Ernst & Young supplied false information that it relied on to invest with the feeder fund. | |||||||
