The Illinois Lottery’s slogan is “Anything’s Possible,” and that applies to its winners as well. Yesterday, officials said payouts for winnings over $600 will be delayed because the lottery is out of money. Illinois had been handing out IOUs for jackpots of over $25,000 since July as the state’s fiscal situation deteriorated and politicians fought over the budget according to the Chicao Tribune. Two winners, whose payments were withheld last month, have sued the Iottery to force payments with interest and prevent the sale of tickets with prizes larger than $25,000 until the winnings can be paid promptly, |
