A bill to give presidents “fast track” trade authority cleared a procedural hurdle today. Senators voted 65 to 33 to advance the bill, paving the way for a final vote next week. Senate approval would send the bill to the House, where it faces an uphill battle. PresidentObama seeks authority to speed passage of trade deals like the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership. Fast track subjects trade agreements to up-or-down votes without amendments. |
