The Senate did not approve a bill that would have renewed expired benefits for the long-term unemployed. Democrats needed 60 votes for a three-month extension but fell one short. More than 1.3 million Americans lost extended jobless benefits on Jan. 1, and over 70,000 lose benefits each week. |
