The Federal Reserve Bank of New York relaeased it s Empire State Index forJanuary. It jumped to 12.5 from 2.2 in December, and follows three months of weak readings. It’s the highest level since May of 2012 and showing manufacturing strengthened in the New York region and supporting views that the nationwide factory sector will continue to be strong in 2014. The average number of mortgage applications jumped 12% last week on a seasonally adjusted basis as interest rates fell according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. On an unadjusted basis, the market composite index was up 61% from the previous week. The refinance index was up 11%, while the seasonally adjusted purchase index was up 12%. The average rate on conforming 30-year fixed-rate mortgages slid to 4.66% from 4.72% Rates on 30-year fixed-rate jumbos fell to 4.58% from 4.66%. |
