Guess what else you might have to bring to work? To save money, some firms have cut back on free coffee, snacks, and other employee perks. However a survey of 2,000 Chief Information Officers by technology consulting firm Gartner finds that by 2017, half of employers worldwide are expected to require employees to supply their own computing devices — in most cases, this means a smartphone or tablet, but could also mean your work desktop or laptop. So if you need a smartphone for business calls or an iPad for client meetings, you’ll need to buy one or bring your own from home, says David Willis, the chief of research for mobility and communications at Gartner. “It’s like how on a construction site you bring your own tools.” |
