| The Labor Department reports the consumer price index rose by a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in June. That matched economists expectations. That was the biggest increase in consumer prices in four months, but signs of inflation are still hard to find in the U.S. economy. The cost of energy rose 3.4% in June. Gas prices barely rose at the pump but had a 6.3% spike on a seasonally adjusted basis. | |||||||
| The Federal Reserve says industrial production rose 0.3% in June, led by a 2.2% gain in home electronics output and a 1.4% gain in automotive product. The production was stronger than the 0.1% expected by economists. | |||||||
| The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo housing-market index rose in July for the third consecutive month, reaching 57 in July. This is the highest level since January 2006 and up from 51 in June. The sentiment gauge is up 63% from June 2012. | |||||||
