The Wall Street Journal reports The Federal Aviation Administration may lift its three-month grounding of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner planes as early as today. The planes had problems with batteries catching fire which have been corrected. |

The Federal Reserve will be watching price data closely for further signs of falling prices, according to speeches from two central bank officials yesterday. Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker and Minneapolis Fed President Narayana Kocherlakota said that that the Fed must be on its guard against deflation. |

Time is running out for Washington to reach agreement on a major deal to reduce the U.S. national debt, former Clinton White House chief of staff Erskine Bowles said Friday, as he and former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson released a new plan to cut spending and increase taxes. The pair are trying again, to find a middle ground between Republicans’ and Democrats’ deficit-reduction ideas and are aiming with their latest proposal to trim the deficit by $2.5 trillion over 10 years. That’s more than the $1.8 trillion President Obama sought in his latest budget. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s plan would cut nearly $5 trillion over 10 years, but wouldn’t raise taxes. |
