| ADP reported the economy gained 158,000 private jobs in March, compared with an upwardly revised gain of 237,000 in February. This was the smallest gain since March. Economists polled by MarketWatch expected 215,000 private-payroll jobs in March, up from an original estimate of 198,000 in February. | |||||||
| Business was not quite as brisk at U.S. service-sector companies in March, according to the Institute for Supply Management. The ISM said its survey of purchasing managers fell to 54.4% last month from a 12-month high of 56% in February. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had expected a drop 55.8%. Reading over 50% indicate expansion. Fifteen of the 18 industries tracked reported growth last month, up from 13 in February. | |||||||
| Bloomberg reports U.S. companies will now be able to post their earnings on Twitter or update their status on Facebook as long as investors have been told in advance where to look. The Securities and Exchange Commission issued guidance letting companies use social media for company announcements. The guidance came as part of a report detailing its investigation into Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings, who in July posted monthly viewership results on his Facebook page rather than in an SEC filing or news release. The SEC took no action against Hastings or Netflix. | |||||||
