The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo housing-market index decreased to 44 in March from 46 in February for a second month of declines.  Analysts   polled by MarketWatch had expected the overall builder-sentiment index to tick higher to 47 in March, supported by rising home prices and growing employment.
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Richard Fisher proposed rolling back the federal safety net and other protections for large banks. In  speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference at National Harbor, Md., on Saturday, Fisher said banking giants, a dozen of which control almost 70% of the assets in the U.S. banking industry, operate under a privileged status.
Marketwatch reports a debate and vote in Cyprus’ parliament over a bailout that has triggered global market losses and rage among Cypriots has   reportedly been postponed another day, said media reports on Monday. The BBC reported that President Nicos Anastasiades, who has been in parliamentary meetings in Nicosia reportedly wants the terms of the deal amended. That vote will now take place Monday evening, according to the BBC. The parliament in Cyprus has to back the bailout proposal in order for it to pass.
