The jobs report was released this morning. The Labor Department reported the U.S. created a better-than-expected 171,000 jobs in October and hiring rose faster in prior months than previously believed, but the politically sensitive unemployment number edged up to 7.9%. |
The Commerce Department says Factory orders rebounded 4.8% in September, meeting expectations and almost reversing a drop in August. |
Oil futures are down, pressured as the U.S. dollar strengths because of of better-than-expected employment data and as energy marketd fret over lost demand iafter Hurricane December crude is off 1.6%, to $85.68 a barrel on the New York Merc. |
Retail groups opposed to a settlement of a $7.25 billion settlement of a lawsuit over merchant credit-card fees have support from 1,200 businesses and trade associations of the 7 million covered by the deal including 7-Eleven and Dollar General. They say the settlement would provide neither transparency or competition into the market for trillions of dollars in credit card fees. |
