The dollar jumped sharply after the Institute for Supply Management’s index on the U.S. manufacturing sector unexpectedly rose to 54.8% in April from 53.4% in March. This is the highest reading since June 2011. Readings over 50% indicate expansion. |
Crude-oil rallied to its highest level in five weeks after that data release. June crude gained 1.2%, to end at $106.16 a barrel on the New York Merc. |
