Weekly jobless claims jumped by 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000 in the week ended April 7, the highest level since late January, according to the Labor Department. Much of the increase was related to spring break, when many school bus drivers and cafeteria workers are allowed to file for temporary unemployment benefits. |
H-P shares rose $1.28 to $24.70 after research firms IDC and Gartner Inc. reported H-P’s first-quarter PC shipments rose more than 3% from a year ago. H-P shipped more than 15 million PCs in the quarter and remained the world’s No. 1 PC maker by units shipped. |
