Alcoa reported an unexpected quarterly profit and the shares are up in the after hours session. Alcoa shares rose 5.2% to $9.80 in heavy volume as the company’s first-quarter net earnings were $94 million, or 9 cents a share. Earnings excluding the impact of special items were 10 cents a share, and revenue rose slightly to $6 billion from the year-ago quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected the company to swing to a loss of 3 cents a share on $5.77 billion in revenue. |
