The American Petroleum Institute reported yesterday that crude oil supplies in the U.S. rose 13 million barrels in the last week, much higher than the 3.5 million barrels expected by analysts polled by Platts. March crude is off 1.7%, to $45.44 a barrel on the New York Merc. Barclays Bank Barclays cut its outlook for crude, saying it expects West Texas Intermediate to average $42 a barrel in 2015, down from its Dec. 1 forecast of $66 a barrel.
Boeing  posted higher fourth-quarter earnings and revenue that beat expectations, but the company gave a disappointing outlook for 2015. Boeing reported a fourth-quarter profit of $1.47 billion, or $2.02 a share, compared with $1.23 billion, or $1.61 a share, a year earlier. Core operating earnings, which exclude items including pension costs, rose to $2.31 from $1.88 and revenue improved to $24.47 billion. Shares are up 3.4% to $136.91 a share, biggest mover in the Dow.
