| Greek stocks fell today, under pressure following the victory of the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece’s general election, but European markets broadly turned higher. The win on Sunday by Syriza puts the future of the country’s international bailout in question, as Syriza has pledged to end austerity measures. It has said it will seek to renegotiate its financial support from its lenders: the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank, and the European Commission. | |||||||
| The head of OPEC says a rebound in oil prices may be at hand. “Prices are around $45-$55, and I think maybe they reached the bottom and will see some rebound very soon,” OPEC Secretary-General Abdulla al-Badri said today, according to Reuters. Bloomberg reports Badri also said it would be possible to see crude climb to $200 a barrel or higher “if you don’t invest in oil and gas.” | |||||||
| The Federal Open Market Committee meets for two days starting tomorrow to set monetary policy for the next six weeks and will release a statement at 11 a.m. Pacific time on Wednesday. There will not be a press conference. | |||||||
