The National Federation of Independent Business says its small-business optimism index rose by 0.8 to 96.1. The NFIB said a record low percentage of small business owners reported problems getting access to capital and a high number say they have no interest in borrowing.
Tax-free Internet shopping is safe for now thanks to House Speaker John Boehner. A bill granting states the ability to force out-of-state websites to collect Internet sales tax is dead, according to the Ohio Republican’s spokesman. A bipartisan group passed the Marketplace Fairness Act out of the Senate last year on a 69-27 vote, led by Sens. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Michael Enzi, R-Wyo., but it has languished in the House. Backers hope to get the bill through during the lame-duck session.
A packed schedule means Loretta Lynch will likely need to be confirmed as attorney general by a Republican-controlled Senate, the Hill reports. A Democratic aide said it’s too difficult to process an Attorney General nomination in the lame-duck session when Democrats will still be in control.
