The Republican Party retook control of the Senate for the first time since 2008 in yesterday midterm elections, winning victories in races around the country. By 9 pacific time, Republican candidates had picked up seven seats in key battleground states including Colorado and Iowa, one more than  needed to take back control of the Senatefrom the Democrats. There may be more pickup’s out there. A tight race in  Alaska has yet to be called, and Louisiana’s contest between Democrat Mary Landrieu and Republican challenger Bill Cassidy is headed for a December 6 runoff after neither candidate got 50% of the vote. Cassidy is favored in that race.
ADP reports private-sector hiring picked up in October, as employers added 230,000 jobs. Economists expected 220,000. September’ was revised up to 225,000 from 213,000. The Labor Department’s employment report, will be released Friday and includes both private sector and government jobs.
