A federal judge in North Carolina has recommended the dismissal of the U.S. government’s lawsuit against Bank of America Corp. over soured mortgage securities, saying the Justice Department is applying the law too broadly. The opinion, if upheld, could undercut the Obama administration’s broader attempt to pursue big banks for activities leading up to the 2008 financial crisis.
Consumer sentiment fell to final March reading of 80, the lowest level since November from a final Februay level of 81.6 according to the University of Michigan Thompson Reuters survey of consumer sentiment. Economists expected 81.
