The uncertain future of U.S. fiscal and central-bank policies poses a growing risk to a global economic recovery that has already been weakened by a slowdown in growth in many developing economies, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.  In its twice-yearly Economic Outlook report, the Paris-based research body said the U.S. debt ceiling should be abolished, and replaced by “a credible long-term budgetary consolidation plan with solid political support.”
Economic expectations in Germany in November climbed to the highest level since October 2009,  with the ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment rising 1.8 points to 54.6 points. Analysts expected  55, according to FactSet.  The current economic environment worsened slightly, with the current-situation indicator slipping 1 point to 28.7 points.
Selfie beat out twerk for the 2013 word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries.  A selfie is a self-portrait usually taken with a camera phone was traced back to an Australian Internet forum in 2002, but it didn’t catch fire until this year. Since 2013 started, we’ve endured a 17,000% surge in use. While still not in the print version, “selfie” was added to Oxford Dictionaries Online in August.
