The Commerce Department reports the U.S. trade gap climbed to $41.8 billion from a slightly revised $38.7 billion in August. Economists expected $39.7 billion. This is the third straight month of increase. In September, imports increased 1.2% to $230.7 billion, while exports dipped 0.2% to $188.9 billion. The trade deficit with China rose slightly to hit a record $30.5 billion, but the trade gap with the European Union fell to $8 billion from $9.8 billion. |

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius annouced the first enrollment figures for Obamacare yesterday. Only 106,185 consumers were processed by the state and federal health exchanges with 26,794 signed up through healthcare.gov from Oct 1 to Nov 2. The administration’s original estimate was that 500,000 consumers would enroll through healthcare.gov in the first month. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Obama administration signaled it was open to legislation to fix the troubled rollout. |
