Republican Senator John McCain will return home to Arizona and miss the vote on the final tax bill this week. The House is expected to take up the bill on Tuesday. Republicans seem to have the votes they need for passage after two holdouts, Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and Marco Rubio of Florida, pledged their support last week. McCain was hospitalized due to side effects from chemotherapy.
The National Association of Home Builders’ monthly sentiment index surged five points to 74 in December. That’s its highest reading since 1999. Economists expected an unchanged 70. Current conditions and future sales both while buyer traffic hit its highest level since 1998. But the associtation said that new tariffs on lumber from Canada are increasing the cost of construction.
Amazon is expanding Prime delivery to 8,000 cities and towns up from 5,000. That means Amazon will deliver gifts up until 1 minute before midnight on Christmas eve. For Prime-less customers, orders with free shipping must be placed by Dec. 15, paid shipping December 18, and Prime December 22.
