The Federal Reserve reports reported that household net worth rose 2.5% to $94.84 trillion, helped by $1.3 trillion gain in the stock market anda $500 billion increase in the value of real estate. Nonfinancial business debt rose by 6.2%, as companies aggressively borrow at current low interest rates. Short-term debt accounted for about 28% of total business debt. Household debt grew by 3.2%, as consumer credit expanded 5% and mortgage debt rose 3%.
