Rising geopolitical tensions lured investors out of stocks and into the safety of Treasurys, gold and the Japanese yen. Stock-market volatility hit its highest levels of the year as investors focused on Syria, Russia, and North Korea, as well as concerns about the first round of France’s presidential election later this month.
