Marketwatch reports a group of leaders from tech companies including Lyft and Etsyt, is calling for increased benefits and a new flexible model for independent contractors.  In a letter on Medium, the group 40 that includes chief executives and venture capitalists, says the U.S. needs a new benefits model based on hours worked or another flexible metric. The call for benefits comes amid litigation against companies such as ride-hailing platform Uber, which uses independent contractors and is facing a class-action trial concerning driver classification and reimbursement.
