| Prime Minister David Cameron pledged to hold a vote on whether the U.K. should remain a member of the European Union within two and a half years of the next general election, which is due in 2015. In his address on his vision of the future of the 27-nation bloc, Mr. Cameron said if re-elected, a Conservative government would renegotiate the U.K.’s relationship with the EU, and then hold a referendum on the new settlement in the first half of its five-year parliamentary term. | |||||||
| The Republican-controlled House plans to vote today to increase the debt ceiling until May 19, a move that would reduce jitters in financial markets and buy time for the Congress and White House to craft a longer-term deal. The Obama administration said it would accept a three-month increase, laying the groundwork for the Democratic-led Senate to strike a deal with the House. | |||||||
| Zookeepers at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and other zoos are planning to use iPads to stimulate bored orangutans. The “Apps for Apes” project seeks to boost mental interaction for the endangered animals. There are more than 10 apps, including musical instruments, cognitive games, and drawing programs. Eventually, the Zoo hopes to connect its orangutans with those at other zoos using video conferencing. | |||||||
