| The value of American homes climbed 5.9% in 2012, the largest annual gain since the summer of 2006near the peak of the housing bubble, according to data released by real-estate information provider Zillow. The final three months of 2012 marked five consecutive quarters of U.S. home value appreciation, and the near 6% annual jump is roughly double the historical average that has home values climbing about 3% a year. For 2013, the company forecasts a 3.3% rise. | |||||||
| International investors are the most bullish on stocks in at least 3 1/2 years, with close to two- thirds planning to raise their holdings of equities during the next six months, according to a Bloomberg survey. 53 percent of respondents to the Bloomberg Global Poll also say equities will offer the highest return in the next year. That’s a 17 percentage point jump from the last poll in November. Behind the enthusiasm for shares is growing confidence in the U.S. economy and ebbing concerns about Europe. | |||||||
| The Bank of Japan on announced a major change in policy, targeting a 2% annual increase in consumer prices and saying it will conduct asset purchases on an “open-ended” basis to boost its monetary stimulus. The bank previously targeted a 1% rate. | |||||||
