U.S. stocks struck a positive note for the first trading day of March, with a rally lifting the Nasdaq Composite above 5,000 for the first time since 2000. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average also made records. The record-setting day for the major indexes came with economic reports today that point to slowdowns in manufacturing activity and consumer spending. |
